S-Tier: The Best Characters

These are the characters that will carry you through the toughest runs. They're not just good - they're game-breaking when you know what you're doing.
Vesper
Vesper is perfect if you're new to the game. He's a melee fighter who gets up close and personal with enemies. What makes him amazing is his healing, he can stay alive while dealing massive damage.
Here's the secret combo that makes Vesper unstoppable:
- Get Hysteria memory and Glacial Core essence
- Hysteria heals you every time you hit something
- Glacial Core turns that healing into cold damage
- Add Clemency essence to heal even more
- Throw in Predation essence for extra boss damage
You'll literally heal yourself while melting everything around you. It's that simple.
Bismuth
Bismuth deals incredible damage but dies easily early on. Her floating book lets her attack while moving, and she can slow down enemies to control fights. Stay far away from enemies at first. Once you get some damage upgrades, she becomes a screen-clearing monster. Focus on speed and damage, but always keep your distance.
Aurena
Aurena is S-tier only when equipped with the Clemency Essence. With this essence, instead of damaging herself with the Golden Burst skill, she restores a massive amount of health, even exceeding her own health pool. To put it simply, without Clemency she’s B-tier, but with it, she becomes god-tier.
Yubar
Yubar is all about never getting hit. He creates shields that make him untouchable when done right. The magic combo is Frostbite memory plus Momentum essence:
- Frostbite gives you instant shields
- Momentum reduces cooldowns when you hit enemies
- Every attack refreshes Frostbite
- You get permanent shields that absorb all damage
Focus on attack speed to keep those cooldowns rolling.
A-Tier: Solid but Not Perfect

These characters are good but require more skill or luck to work well.
Mist
Mist has a unique style with her Fleche + Paranoia combo. When enemies hit you, she automatically dashes and attacks them back. You get healing and temporary invincibility too. It's fun, but it can dash you into trouble sometimes. You need to stay alert even though it feels like autopilot.
Lacerta
Lacerta is reliable and simple. She has good dodge moves, guaranteed critical shots, and fire damage bonuses. Her explosive crits feel great, and she's perfect if you like skill-based gameplay over crazy combos. She's consistent but needs several things to line up perfectly to reach S-tier levels.
Nachia
If you want melee combat but find Vesper too basic, try Nachia. She heals herself and gets damage boosts when her health gets low. This risk-reward style keeps things exciting but makes her trickier for beginners. However, due to her complicated kit, Nachia stands in A-tier, just below Vesper.
B-Tier: Skip It

Shell
Shell feels extremely limited. There are better options for every situation. Unless you're doing something very specific, pick someone else. Not only is this character too niche, but unlocking him is also quite difficult and requires luck.
Your character choice sets up your entire run in Shape of Dreams. Stick with S-tier picks while you're learning, then experiment with A-tier options once you understand the game better. Avoid B-tier characters unless you really know what you're doing.
The most important thing is understanding how memories and essences work with your chosen Traveler. Master those combos, and you'll be clearing the toughest content in no time.
