P5X Character Tier List: Best Persona 5 Phantom X Characters

If you're playing Persona 5: The Phantom X, you probably want to know which characters are worth your time. The game has tons of characters to choose from, but not all of them are created equal. Some will carry you through the hardest content, while others might leave you struggling. This tier list covers all the characters as of Version 2.1 in September 2025. We'll break down who's worth investing in and why, so you can build the best team possible.

Now, let's break down why these characters earned their spots and what makes them special.

SS-Tier

Marian

Marian is hands down the best healer in the game right now. She does everything you want from a support character. Her skills give your team more max HP, damage buffs, heal over time, and she can even remove debuffs.

What makes her special is how flexible she is. You can throw Marian into any team and she'll make it better. That's rare for support characters.

Queen (Makoto)

Queen completely changes how damage works in this game. She focuses on elemental ailments and technical attacks, which is a fancy way of saying she makes enemies take way more damage.

As a Nuke DPS character, she's incredibly reliable. If you need someone to deal consistent damage, Queen is your answer. She earned her spot at the top for good reason.

Chord

Chord is the best strategist you can get right now. She gives your team access to Highlights (special powerful moves) and tons of single-target buffs. Most teams focus on one main damage dealer, and Chord makes that character way stronger. She's basically a must-pick for almost any team setup.

Tropical Motoha

Tropical Motoha, or S. Closer, is currently the strongest DPS character in the game. She deals massive Bless damage to both single enemies and groups. What's really nice is that she doesn't need much help to stay alive - her survivability is naturally high. The recent buffs made her even better, and that's why she's at the top of the table.

S-Tier

Soy

Soy is your go-to tank character. His Wild Runner passive automatically taunts enemies, a core aspect of a true tank. He also has ways to reduce damage and heal himself back up. Pair him with characters who can give shields like Leon or Riddle, and he becomes nearly unstoppable.

Rin

Rin can reduce enemy defense and inflict Forget, which stops enemies from using their skills for 1-2 turns. That means no heals, buffs, or debuffs from them, and that's a big plus. Her Meng Po Soup ability makes it easier to land these debuffs, making her incredibly useful against tough enemies.

Joker

Joker is a solid Curse DPS character. He gets extra turns when he builds up enough passive stacks, and his damage gets boosted during those extra actions. While newer characters have started to outshine him, he's still very reliable and worth using if you have him.

A-Tier

Wind

Wind doesn't join until later in the story, but she's worth the wait. Her support skills work in almost any team, and she becomes essential if you're building a Wind-focused team.

Fleuret

Fleuret is the only Wind DPS character right now. He gets stronger the longer fights go on, thanks to his Right to Strike stacks. His Windswept debuff lowers enemy defense, and he can boost his own crit chance. As an Assassin character, he can hit harder than most others when set up properly.

Puppet

Puppet is all about protecting your team with shields. The more shields she gives out, the more she increases everyone's defense through her Seashell stacking passive. She's perfect for long boss fights where you need to stay alive rather than end things quickly.

Mona (Morgana)

Mona has something no other character can do - revive fallen allies. Even though it requires a Highlight to use, bringing someone back to life is incredibly powerful. He also guarantees Windswept debuffs, which makes him useful beyond just revival duties.

B and C-Tier

The characters in these tiers aren't bad, but they have specific uses or need certain team setups to shine. Cattle is great early on for healing, but gets outclassed later. Bui can deal massive damage but requires precise timing and specific teammates.

Closer (the regular version) works well in the first palace since enemies are weak to Electric, but she's too dependent on landing Shock status to be reliable everywhere.

The most important thing is understanding what each character brings to your team. A good mix of damage, healing, and support will get you further than just picking the highest-ranked characters.
