Tomes in Megabonk can make or break your run. You can only carry 4 of them at once, so picking the right ones really matters. Some tomes will keep you alive way longer, while others just don't pull their weight. This tier list ranks all Megabonk tomes from best to worst.

S-Tier: Best Tomes in Megabonk

Armor
This one cuts down the damage enemies do to you. When you're trying to survive longer runs, damage reduction is huge. There aren't many ways to reduce damage in Megabonk, so this tome is solid on pretty much every character you play.
Damage
Pretty straightforward - this boosts all your damage output. Enemies get tougher as your run goes on, so you need to hit harder. Sure, you can level up individual weapons, but this tome bumps up everything you've got. Every character benefits from more damage.
Quantity
This increases how many projectiles your weapons shoot out. If you're using guns like the Revolver or Sniper, or even the Wireless Dagger, this is amazing. More projectiles means you hit more enemies before they even reach you. Even just a few levels in this tome can add 5 or 6 extra projectiles, which makes survival so much easier.
Cooldown
This speeds up how fast your weapons attack. More attacks means more damage going out, which helps you deal with all those enemies rushing at you. Every weapon in the game uses attack speed, so this works for any build. Just make sure you're also building up your damage - attacking faster doesn't help much if your hits are weak.
A-Tier: Really Good Options
Evasion
This gives you a chance to dodge enemy attacks completely. If you're using a Katana, dodging can trigger a counterattack that might instantly kill the enemy. It's great, but you might still die fast if an attack does land. You'll want some extra Health or Armor to back this up.
Duration
Some weapons keep doing damage after you use them, like the Axes that spin around you. This tome makes those effects last longer. Not every weapon uses duration, but the ones that do get a lot better with this tome.
Size
Your attacks get bigger. Bullets, sword swings, arrows - everything grows and hits more enemies. It works with almost any build. The only thing is it doesn't make you hit harder or attack more often, just makes your attacks cover more space. You need other stats to really make this shine.
XP
You get more experience from every XP shard you pick up. More XP means you level up faster and get more chances to upgrade your weapons and stats. You still need some luck with what upgrades you get offered, but more rolls is always good.
Bloody
This is your lifesteal stat. Every time you hit an enemy, you get a bit of health back. The healing isn't massive, but if you're attacking a lot, you'll barely notice losing health because it comes right back.
B-Tier: Decent But Situational
Agility
Move faster to avoid getting hit. It helps you kite enemies around, but they'll still pile up behind you. This works best if you've got ways to damage enemies while running. You can also get movement speed from Shrines, so this isn't always needed.
Projectile Speed
Your projectile attacks travel faster to their target. This isn't the same as attack speed - you're not shooting more often, the shots just get there quicker. It's okay when combined with the Cooldown tome, but on its own it's not that impactful.
Luck
Better odds of getting good stuff from chests, Shrines, and level-ups. It's useful for getting the best weapon upgrades, but there's still randomness involved. It doesn't guarantee anything, so don't count on it too much.
Thorns
Reflects damage back when enemies hit you. This is good if you're building a tanky character that can take hits, but you really need to build around it. If you're not tanky, thorns won't do much before you die.
Precision
Increases your critical hit chance. This can be strong, but you need to also boost your overall damage and critical damage to make it worth it. If your base damage is low, crits don't help much.
C-Tier: Pretty Niche
Regen
You heal more HP per minute. Every character has natural regen, and this speeds it up. Problem is, lifesteal is usually better. In late game when you're getting swarmed, this slow healing just can't keep up unless you've been leveling it the whole run.
Golden
More gold drops from enemies and pots. This is only really useful for Robinette, who gets stronger with more gold. Otherwise it's just not worth a tome slot unless you're planning to buy a ton of items from shops.
Shield
Gives you a shield that absorbs damage before your health takes a hit. Once it breaks though, it does nothing. You could use it with Armor or Evasion, but there are better defensive options.
Knockback
Makes your attacks push enemies back. Weapons like the Shotgun already do this. It buys you a few seconds, but if you're not dealing good damage or healing with lifesteal, those few seconds don't matter much.
Attraction
Pulls XP drops from farther away. Nice for convenience, but the Suck Shrine does the same thing. If you get the Sucky Magnet item, this becomes completely useless. Skip it for something better.
Chaos
Boosts a random stat. While this may sound good, other tomes are generally more useful, especially if you’re running a specific build. However, if you enjoy a bit of risk, this is the tome for you.
HP
This tome increases max HP. While it’s generally good, having more lifesteal or a defense boost are much better options.
D-Tier Tomes: Just Say No
Cursed
Makes your run harder by buffing all the enemies. Their damage, health, speed - everything goes up. Only grab this if you're going for a high score or trying to unlock the Corrupted Sword. Otherwise, why make things harder for yourself?
Silver
More Silver currency from all sources. Only useful if you really need Silver for unlocks. If you don't need Silver right now, this tome is taking up a slot that could have something actually helpful.
Remember, this tier list serves as a general guideline, you might have different builds that work well with mid- to lower-tier tomes. Now get out there and create a build that’ll carry you through the later waves. Good luck!
